It doesn’t matter if you’re a good cook. They hold your hand through the whole process.
Take a cooking class..Don’t be intimidated. It’s fun. And, so what if you are terrible at it. You’re paying for it and who cares if the teacher is secretly judging you when you botch the separating of egg whites or whip the cream until it becomes butter!
I took a French Macaron class at Sur La Table. It was great fun and now I know why the stinking little tiny cookies are so expensive.
They are labor intensive!
My daughter Chloe and her BF Aubrey and I went together. We gave the class as a gift to Aubrey for her birthday and gave ourselves a gift at the same time…it’s a win win!
When we arrived to SLT, they dressed us all cute in a little black apron and greeted us with coffee.
I realize now that the coffee was to keep us powered-up so we could withstand the rigorous and intensive exercise of sifting the almond flower and sugar for what seemed like hours!
Seriously…for all of you who have failed at French macarons, the secret is in the sifting…
hours and hours and hours of sifting
Ok, I’m exaggerating a little but it was a lot of sifting. I have to admit that I thought about the fact that buying these little delights would be a lot easier than making them at home but in the end…I think I will make them at home. It was all worth it!
FYI: Macaroons have coconut and Macarons are smooth perfectly shaped little round cookies…so now you know!
For Macaroooons, try this recipe. Coconut Macaroons I make them all the time and my hubby loves them…soooo easy!
