Everyone should have a Mad Hatter Tea Party. It is perfect for many occasions from a Mother’s Day Tea to a grand daughter's birthday. This year it was for the Big Kids!
For a mad hatter party…Hats. everyone must wear a hat, of course! And, the “Madder” the hat the better. At our Summer bash, everyone really got into the hat thing. My guests either bought or made the coolest hats I’ve ever seen!
Every successful party requires… Theme, Decorations, Food, Desserts, Activity, and Drinks
1. Theme
Mad Hats! Alice in Wonderland. Tea. Croquet. Madness!
Some hats were too big to wear. I made them for decoration! But check out these party guests…
2. Decorations
Tea pots, tea cups, hats and Alice and Wonderland stuff. My mom and I have a fun mis-matched collection of porcelain tea cups that we used as decoration for the party tables. We filled the cups with moss, flowers and fun little bobbles. They added magic to the scene.
I use the party-givers dream device: my Cricut machine, for all of my parties. We made little cut-outs for the table and doors, a banner that said, “We’re All Mad Here!” and a sign that said, “We’re Painting The Roses Red.”
We’re All Mad Here…
3. Food
It has to be fun food at a tea party. It can’t be your run of the mill Summer picnic potato salad.
We also made these cute little cucumber and egg salad sandwiches for the vegetarians.
My brother, Steve, brought oysters on the half shell so we printed out the poem:
The Walrus and the Carpenter
By Lewis Caroll
(from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, 1872):
It made me feel bad for the little oysters so I didn’t eat any!
4. Dessert is Everything!
My sister Mitchie is a genius in the dessert department. Chloe and I make some good stuff too. So much sugary goodness.
5. Activity
Every party needs an activity just in case everyone is lacking in conversation or just in a boring mood. Activity breaks the ice and adds to the fun.
Nate made our croquet set into Flamingo Croquet! It was funny and fun!
We played “red-neck” golf, croquet and Heads-up, but mostly ate, drank, walked around the garden, socialized and laughed at each other in our crazy hats. Speaking of drinking…
6. Drinks!
We made tea and lemonade but almost no one drank it. The spiked beverages are always preferred!
Warning!
If your party is too fun, your guests won’t leave. You’ll have to “Smoke the monsters out!”
Check out the story of this pretty girl, Nikki and her brother, Rex and how we rescued a baby chipmunk right out or her brother’s jaws!
